Ingredient Watchlist:

In addition to our banned ingredients, we also closely monitor certain ingredients to ensure our products remain safe and responsible.

  • Alcohols: Different types of alcohols can have varied effects on the skin. When listed simply as 'alcohol,' it usually refers to ethyl alcohol (denatured alcohol), which can dry out the skin. The Beauty Confidante avoids using denatured alcohol.

  • Allergens: The FDA does not require the listing of food or fragrance allergens on cosmetic packaging, unlike the European Union, which mandates the listing of fragrance allergens. To address concerns about skin sensitivities and allergic reactions, we aim for full transparency and minimize allergens in our formulations. Check individual product pages for specific allergen information.

  • Animal-Derived Ingredients: The Beauty Confidante is cruelty-free and primarily vegan. We avoid animal-derived ingredients whenever possible, including carmine, which is used for its bright red pigment. Vegan products are clearly labeled.

  • Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs): GMOs are organisms altered using biotechnology. While they can offer health benefits, we strive to avoid GMOs in our products whenever possible.

  • Mica: We are committed to ethical sourcing of mica and partner with members of the Responsible Mica Initiative to ensure our mica is sourced responsibly, avoiding child labor and poor working conditions.

  • Palm Oil: Palm oil production has been linked to deforestation and other environmental issues. The Beauty Confidante sources palm-derived materials certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) to ensure sustainable practices.

  • Silicones (Linear): Unlike harmful cyclic silicones, linear silicones are safe, vegan, and GMO-free. They form a breathable, protective barrier on the skin and are compatible with other ingredients, providing excellent sensory benefits.

  • Talc: Used in color cosmetics for its texture, we source talc from responsible suppliers who certify their talc is asbestos-free.

  • Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES): This ingredient is restricted by EU standards depending on concentration and use. We monitor its use closely to ensure compliance.

  • Phenoxyethanol: Allowed in cosmetics in the EU up to a certain concentration (1%), but checked against specific EU regulations for compliance.

  • Propylene Glycol: Generally permitted in cosmetics within certain limits in the EU.

  • Fragrance/Parfum: Allowed but must comply with EU regulations on allergens and components.

  • PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil: PEGs are generally permitted in cosmetics but must comply with restrictions on impurities and manufacturing processes.

  • Polyquaternium-55 and Polyquaternium-10: These polyquaternium compounds may have usage restrictions in the EU depending on specific types and concentrations.

  • Salicylic Acid: Allowed in cosmetics in certain concentrations in the EU but must comply with specific restrictions.

  • Citric Acid: Permitted in cosmetics in the EU but must adhere to purity standards.
